Bloomington Minnesota City Information
Located in the culture-rich Hennepin County, the city of Bloomington offers a thriving population of more than 85,000 residents, the world renowned Mall of America, and enough activities to keep you busy 24 hours a day.
If you love the outdoors, there are more than 9,000 acres of parks. The Hyland Lake Reserve Park is an ideal spot for camping, picnics, canoeing and paddle boat rentals. For a little more action, the park offers 5.6 miles of paved biking trails, and 7.3 miles of hiking trails. In the winter, the park draws in cross-country skiers, and sledding lovers. Ice Garden offers hockey and ice-skating, with pond hockey in the winter. There are several replenished rivers and streams to enjoy fishing. The Minnesota River offers 332 miles of water. But if half-price sales, rather than white-water rapids, gets your heart pumping then venture over to the Mall or "MOA" as it is known.
The Mall of America - the biggest mall in the United States - houses 520 stores, 60 restaurants, a wedding chapel, a movie theater. And, believe it or not, there is talk of expansion. In the center of the mall is a seven-acre amusement park, complete with heart stopping rides, and a spinning roller-coaster. On the lower level, you will find Underwater Adventures Aquarium, a 1.2 million gallon aquarium that will give you an up-close-and-personal view of what makes this city so special.
The Bloomington Sun-Current newspaper offers free subscriptions to a number of Bloomington residents and has covered general city events for decades.
The City of Bloomington has several public and private schools. Normandale Community College, an urban college, cares for the well-known Japanese Gardens. For those seeking a natural health care organization, there is Northwestern Health Sciences University.
Bloomington also offers much in the way of culture. The Bloomington Civic Plaza houses City Hall, a Police Facility, and the Bloomington Center for the Arts. Also known as, BAC, the Art Center offers classes for all ages, workshops, exhibitions, and a theater. For more entertainment and culture options, you can always hop on the Light Rail, and head to Minneapolis.
