Minneapolis Neighborhoods
The Hawthorne neighborhood, located just north of downtown Minneapolis, is home to nearly 6,000 residents, nearly twice the size of most other Minneapolis neighborhoods. It is home to the Nellie Stone Johnson School, one of Minneapolis' Choice schools. The Johnson school emphasizes active community partnerships, and is actively supported by a number of community organizations.
This active participation is characteristic of the Hawthorne neighborhood, which is also home to an active community organization, the Hawthorne Area Community Council. HACC has been in operation for over thirty years, and is involved in improving neighborhood services and access for all of its residents.

The neighborhood is a diverse urban community of three family homes interspersed with single family residences. While the income level is below the median for Minneapolis as a whole, the fun factor is not. The neighborhood is home to Fairview Park, which offers a wealth of recreational opportunities for residents, including football, basketball, soccer and baseball, a tot lot and wading pool, biking paths and walking paths. In the winter, the graded hills provide wonderful sledding surfaces for adults and children alike.
