The neighborhood is active and busy, with activities that include a weekly Farmers' Market on Sunday, community gardens, emergency and neighborhood redevelopment grants to encourage property maintenance and upkeep. The Kingfield Neighborhood Community council is heavily involved in pursuing a better quality of life for all of its residents. The most visible evidence of Kingfield's involvement with its neighborhood is the Mural Map that began in 2003. It encourages partnerships between professional artists and teens in planning and painting murals on the exterior walls of area businesses.
King Field neighborhood takes its name from Martin Luther King Park, located in the neighborhood. Martin Luther King Park offers recreational activities to the entire neighborhood through both scheduled activities and informal gatherings. The wading pool and tot lot are an attraction to all the small children in the neighborhood, and comfortable seating affords parents and neighbors an easy place to socialize and get to know each other. There are two softball and baseball fields that are available for pickup games and more formally scheduled activities, basketball, tennis and volleyball courts and a walking path that provides hiking, walking and jogging for the community.
With a population of nearly 8,000, King Field is one of the larger neighborhoods in Minneapolis. Its ethnically diverse base offers social and cultural activities that foster fun, education and understanding for all.
