Minneapolis Neighborhoods
- Check out the Linden Hills MLS
Linden Hills is a very developed and upscale place to live within the city. This neighborhood was first developed in the late 1800s and was named for its linden trees. The developers hoped to persuade homeowners to purchase cottages on the lakefronts, most of which have been renovated. Many of the homes in the area are now large Tudors or bungalows, but the city's historical roots shine through.
Transportation is never an issue in this neighborhood. When it was first developed, The Lake Harriet-Como trolley was built to connect this neighborhood with the downtown area of the city, as well as provide transportation means to and from both lakes. Today, this line still runs from Lake Harriet to Lake Calhoun.
The average price of a home in Linden Hills was just over $198,000 in 2000, which is much higher than the $113,500 average house price in all of Minneapolis. Housing costs, however, are generally lower and the average income is higher in this community than in most of the city.
