At one time, the North River Industrial Area, which stretches along the Mississippi River to Interstate 94, was a part of McKinley as well, but this piece of land officially became its own community in 1996, making McKinley a more residential and less industrial place to live. Most of the homes in this area are original and were built in the 1920s. Single-family houses are most common, with wooden frames being the norm.
There are a number of parks and business catering to families found in McKinley, making this a nice neighborhood for settling down with a family. You are a bit farther away from the downtown area of Minneapolis, and, thus, the hustle and bustle of that part of the city, but very close to a number of industrial centers where work can be found.
