Minneapolis Neighborhoods

Located directly south of the Minneapolis Downtown district, the neighborhood of Phillips is named after nineteenth century abolitionist Wendell Phillips.

Phillips is a delightfully diverse area, with a mixture of nationalities living here-people of more than one hundred different ethnic backgrounds make their homes here. The neighborhood itself is just as varied, with a mixture of residential, commercial, and industrial areas located in the neighborhood. A number of large employers are located in Phillips, including Wells Fargo Mortgage Services and Abbott Northwestern Hospital.

Since 2005, the neighborhood has been subdivided into the Phillips West, East Phillips, and Phillips Midtown regions, and around 20,000 people live in the greater Phillips neighborhood.

The Phillips community is dedicated to providing safe recreational activities for its young people, with the East Phillips Community center a central hub for the greater Phillips neighborhood. Included here are indoor basketball courts, a gymnasium, a swimming pool, a craft room, and playground for younger children as well.

The community has also partnered with a number of non-profit organizations to refurbish older housing units, to create affordable single and multiple family housing units. This is a mature and well-developed neighborhood, with many housing options for investors as well as home-owners.
