Located directly south of the Minneapolis Downtown district, the neighborhood of Phillips is named after nineteenth century abolitionist Wendell Phillips. This neighborhood has a mixture of residential, commercial, and industrial areas. A number of large employers are located in Phillips, including Wells Fargo Mortgage Services and Abbott Northwestern Hospital. The Phillips community is dedicated to providing safe recreational activities for its young people, with the East Phillips Community center a central hub for the greater Phillips neighborhood. Included here are indoor basketball courts, a gymnasium, a swimming pool, a craft room, and playground for younger children as well.
