Minneapolis Neighborhoods

Wenonah is a neighborhood on the southern edge of Minneapolis, Minnesota. The neighborhood of Wenonah is bordered by Highway 62, 54th Street, Cedar Avenue and Lake Nokomis on the west end and 34th Avenue on the east end.

Wenonah is named after Hiawatha's mother, the daughter of Nokomis. Before 1900, Wenonah was a major center for American Indians.

The existing homes in Wenonah were primarily built in the 20s and 60s, primarily because at the time, there were streetcar routes and rail lines that date back to 1865.

Today, Wenonah is a part of the Nokomis community and the Nokomis East Neighborhood Association. The Nokomis East Neighborhood Association is comprised of four communities - Keewaydin, Minnehaha, Morris Park and Wenonah.

Wenonah is a popular community to live in because of its many amenities. There are plenty of public and shopping services available in Wenonah or the other nearby Nokomis East Neighborhood Association communities. Living in Wenonah is a good choice for families, particularly those who want to be closer to amenities.
