Monticello is a place that juxtaposes the beauty of nature and the call of industry. This city is home to the Monticello Nuclear Generation Plant, which uses the river water to cool the heating towers. The warm water flows back into the river, and its heat attracts many species of animals, including the famous trumpeter swans. As of 2000, there were just over 3,000 housing units in the city. Over half of these households were married couples, with the majority of these couples having families. That, coupled with the wonderful neighborhood community and a great public school system, attributes to Monticello?s great family atmosphere.
