St. Paul Real Estate Information

Minnesota's capital city was almost given the name of "Pig's Eye" after an early settler, but fortunately a missionary named it after his favorite saint - St Paul. Today, the city enjoys a spectacular setting along the Mississippi River and offers a wide range of leisure and cultural facilities and an excellent standard of living.

By some estimates, the city has over 120 identifiable neighborhoods ? so choosing an area to live may be a chore! Most homes in St. Paul were built before 1949 and the city has many lovely Victorian neighborhoods. One of the finest is Summit Avenue, once the home of F. Scott Fitzgerald and Garrison Keillor.

Housing is plentiful in St. Paul - available properties range from affordable starter homes to luxurious riverside mansions to newer townhomes or loft conversions. The average sale price in the city is about $213,000 - which is around 97% of the actual asking price.

There are also a number of so-called "craftsman" houses, dating from the beginning of the 20th century which have become highly sought after. The downtown area offers a wide variety of loft and condo conversions - many located in the riverfront area that has been revitalized in recent years. Around 500 condos, lofts or warehouse apartments are on offer at any one time in the city.

Downtown St Paul has preserved many of its older buildings, and as with many larger cities has become a fashionable place to live as well as work. Downtown contains many of the city's main attractions such as the State Capitol, the Minnesota Children's Museum and the Science Museum. Downtown also has a modest theater district and ethnic dining options can be found along Grand Avenue and University Avenue.

The great outdoors is never far away in St. Paul. The twin cities metro area contains more than 25 lakes. And St. Paul boasts over 160 parks, over 20 pedestrian and bicycle paths ? and even a beach.

So whether you are visiting for business or pleasure, or relocating - take advantage of everything that one of America's most livable cities has to offer.

Saint Paul is noted for its neighborhoods and the city has been dubbed 15 small towns with one mayor, which reflects on the neighborhood based life of many parts of the city. However, Saint Paul is divided into 17 city districts. Many city district boundaries overlap the boundaries of neighborhoods, throughout Saint Paul, that is not the case.

As one of the Twin Cities, St. Paul boasts many amenities that city life has to offer while coupling itself with the slower pace of small town living in each of the communities. There are neighborhoods that range from working class to upper class neighborhoods that overlook the Mississippi River.

Of course, one can not forget the University of Minnesota which has one of its Twin Cities campuses in St. Paul.

The real estate prices throughout Saint Paul differ substantially from neighborhood to neighborhood, however you will find that regardless of the price, the people are all very friendly neighbors. There is certainly a home that will fit into your needs and price range, comfortably suiting your lifestyle while not stretching your budget.
