Summit University also includes the historic Cathedral Hill neighborhood and what remains of the old Rondo ? which used to be its own neighborhood of St. Paul.

Lower Rondo, which is known to the locals as Cornbread Valley was the center of St. Paul?s tiny but thriving African American community, dating all the way back to the Civil War, however it was nearly obliterated when Interstate 94 was constructed. The Upper Rondo, which is known as Oatmeal Hill, used to serve as a largely middle class neighborhood and still remains intact to this day, however has been absorbed into Summit University area. With the absorption into Summit University, the demographics of the area have changed considerably.
