Sunfish Lake MN Area Information
This has been one of the major priorities of city government since its inceptions. Among the very few city ordinances in existence is the one that requires at least 2.5 acres of buildable land for all new construction, maintaining the wide open spaces and heavily wooded lots between homes in the city. There are three small private lakes within the city limits, and the entire area of the city is only about 1.7 square miles. Sunfish is the ideal community for those who enjoy little interference from community government. The government of Sunfish Lake has no employees, and owns only the Harmon Park, which is undeveloped, a small parcel of land that was donated and designated for a City Hall, and 22 acres of donated parkland which will be kept in its natural state for perpetuity in accordance with the wishes of its donor. In fact, the city budget for the year of 2005 was less than the average price of a home in the small community.
About half the families in Sunfish Lake include children under the age of 18. The town is served by Independent School District #197, an award winning and highly ranked school district that includes North St. Paul and Mendota Heights.
Despite its determination to remain rural in atmosphere, Sunfish Lake is within just a few miles of downtown St. Paul, offering its residents an easy commute to work and the entertainment available in the city. Real estate in Sunfish Lake is strictly confined to single family homes.
