Near North Minneapolis Real Estate

Located in the Northwest of Minneapolis, the neighborhood of Near North is named simply for its location-north of Downtown, on the west bank of the Mississippi. Near North is home to several historical landmarks, including the Sumner Community Library, which opened in 1915. The library is built in the Tudor Revival style and is named for U.S. Senator Charles Sumner.

Most of the Near North area was developed in the late nineteenth century, and there are several industries located along the banks of the river. There are many historic houses in the Old Highland neighborhood, with a handful of massive Victorian Queen Anne homes built in the late 1800s. The neighborhood has Bungalows and Craftsman style homes as well.

With approximately six thousand residents, Near North is a neighborhood which is home to proportionately more families than most other Minneapolis neighborhoods.

While some residential areas of Minneapolis have fallen into disrepair in recent decades, the Northside Resident Redevelopment Council has strived to better the area, helping to refurbish and renovate single-family homes and apartments, as well as working with local small businesses. This group operates to create a stable, thriving community by working closely with business owners, residents and government agencies.
