St. Anthony West Minneapolis Area Information

St. Anthony West is located within easy walking distance of the Downtown neighborhood of the city, as well as the University of Minnesota. Boom Island Park, some 14 acres in area, is also located here.

St. Anthony West is home to around 2,500 people, approximately half of which are renters. This is an ideal neighborhood for both home-buyers and those looking to invest in rental property. Housing styles are variable—anything from a one or two person condo, to a larger family home can be found here. Approximately 50% of the homes in St. Anthony West were built before 1920. New residential areas sprang up over the next several decades, with 1970s-style homes built in the Boom Island area, and townhouses constructed along 3rd Avenue in the 9180s.

Over the past decade, the St. Anthony West community has executed several action plans created to benefit all residents, including community safety and awareness programs, assistance for home-buyers to encourage higher rates of owner-occupancy, and programs designed for the neighborhood’s young people.
